The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has officially operationalised the procedure for the import and export of gems and jewellery through personal carriage at the Air Cargo Complex (ACC), Jaipur and Jaipur International Airport.

From May 1, travellers passing through Mumbai Airport will be allowed to import and export jewellery via private transport, following a formal directive from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). The initiative, led by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), is expected to simplify logistics for exporters and boost India's position as a global jewellery hub

In a significant boost to India’s gem and jewellery sector, Mumbai International Airport will officially commence hand-carriage jewellery export operations from May 1, 2025. The move marks a pivotal development for exporters, especially emerging players, by allowing the personal carriage of precious cargo to global markets
